Developed in the late 20th century, this small companion dog was bred from a distinctive mix of northern and Spitz breeds to create a compact breed that resembles the Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute in appearance but is much smaller in size. While this adorable dog may resemble a miniature Husky, they have some key differences, especially regarding temperament and purpose. These differences distinguish this unique breed from them from their Husky ancestors of the north. This breed is more suited to the life of a companion animal rather than that of a working dog. However, the Alaskan Klee Kai shares the high energy of the Siberian Husky and demands plenty of exercise. In that regard, calling this pup a miniature Husky isn’t too far off! Still, these are completely separate breeds. They also tend to be shy around strangers and are prone to expressing their emotions with whines and barks.
